What it is

Bunion Surgery

A bunion is the big toe joint drifting out of line: the metatarsal angles outward and the toe angles inward, creating the bump.
It is a bone alignment problem, not a growth, and shoes do not cause it, though they make it hurt.Surgery cuts and shifts the metatarsal back into alignment and fixes it with small screws. Minimally invasive techniques do this through incisions a few millimeters long.

Who It Helps

Surgery fits bunions that hurt in reasonable shoes, that limit walking or activity, or that are crowding the second toe, after wider shoes and padding have been tried. We do not operate on bunions for appearance alone.
