Hurt Today? Call Today.

We strive to offer same-day appointments for acute orthopedic injuries: a fall, a pop, a dislocated joint, or a fracture splinted in an emergency room. One number reaches both clinics. Tell the front desk what happened and they will find the first opening with the right surgeon. This is not an urgent care. It is a direct line to a fellowship-trained surgeon when an injury should not wait weeks.

Two Weeks Out

Before Surgery

Complete any pre-operative clearance your surgeon requested, usually a visit with your primary care physician and basic labs.Tell us about every medication and supplement, including aspirin, blood thinners, anti-inflammatories and fish oil.Stop smoking or nicotine products now if you can. Nicotine measurably slows bone and tendon healing. If you need help, tell us; it is worth it.

The Week Before

Your surgeon will tell you which medications to pause and when.Do not stop a prescription blood thinner without instructions from the prescriber. Arrange a ride home and someone to stay with you the first night.Set up your home: clear walkways, move daily items to counter height, and pick up any brace, crutches, sling or walker your surgeon ordered so you are not learning them afterward.

The Night Before and Surgery Day

Follow the fasting instructions from the surgery center exactly.Usually nothing to eat after midnight and only small sips of water with approved medications in the morning.Shower with the antiseptic soap if one was provided. Wear loose clothing that fits over a dressing or brace. Leave jewelry and valuables at home. Bring your ID, insurance card and medication list.

Questions to Ask Your Surgeon

How long will I be off work or driving. What will the first week of pain control look like. When does physical therapy start and where. What signs should prompt a call to the office.Write the answers down or bring someone to listen. We would rather answer the same question twice than have you guess.
